It is a poor choice for what other Hawaiian islands do better. The active volcanoes belong to Hawaii Island, the Road to Hana to Maui and Pearl Harbor to Oahu. Tours from Oahu to Kauai start on another island and are not listed here.
Distances matter: from Lihue, Poipu is about 25 to 30 minutes by car, Hanalei about 45 to 50 minutes and Waimea Canyon about an hour to 75 minutes (Hawaii Guide, kauai.com). Choose tours that match where you sleep.
Good to know: Kauai is one island with one main road that does not circle it: the Na Pali Coast has no road along it, and the road ends at Haena State Park on the north shore. Visitors who do not live in Hawaii need an advance reservation to enter Haena State Park (Hawaii DLNR). Volcanoes, the Road to Hana and Pearl Harbor are on other islands.
